A Louis XVI Tulipwood and Amaranth Bureau Plat signed Montigny, circa 1770
The rectangular bureau plat is veneered in tulipwood and amaranth and has a tooled red leather writing surface, with a wide matted ormolu edge mount. At either end are pull out slides and in the front are three drawers. The middle recessed drawer is veneered in tulipwood with an amaranth border and the two side drawers are veneered in amaranth with Greek key Marquetry in tulipwood, with ormolu banding around the drawers. The end and back are veneered in Greek key Marquetry, with ormolu banding and a central ormolu motif. The protruding angles are applied with rosettes, the legs have recessed angles surmounted by garlands of bay leaves and ending with ormolu sabots.
